After Jump Start, engine won't start, check hybrid system warning

    Hi all! Brand new to the forum today. Thanks in advance for your help and hospitality

    Went to drive my 2010 Prius this morning for the first time in a week (give or take) and found the battery to be completely dead. I tried jump starting the Prius and was able to get the electrical system running, but the car wouldn't start. The check hybrid system warning came up on the dash as well as all the colorful warning lights. Obviously i need to take it into the dealer, but is there anyway to get the car running today? Does anyone know what the actual problem may be?

    Did you jump the battery or the jump point in the engine bay?
    Are you certain you got the polarity correct?
    I’d trickle charge the 12v for a day, or...if hooked up properly, let the car charging the 12v run and charge your 12v for a few hours.

    If when jumpstarting a prii, the polarity is reversed, oops, fried inverter, hopefully your 12v just needs more juice, slowly applied, not forced.

    You can try to recharge or replace the 12 VDC battery...but...assuming you jumped it correctly, it would not light up the dash as you said once it boots. You can pull the terminals off (the 12V) for a while the reconnect (+ first) and see if it resets...but don't get your hopes up.

    What's the battery date? might just be an old battery that needs Tobe replaced no need to take to dealer yet

    It does sound pretty ominous, but make sure it's not a low 12V first. They can give bogus errors.

    Mmm, Even with the hybrid battery not working the car should start up perfectly. I believe you should get a new battery and see if that works. If not I would not recommend a dealer to change the hybrid battery due to their cost. If you are able to find a person that can do it for you it would be much cheaper. For example, my Roseville Toyota dealer goes to some random guy and he puts it in so I found him and he said he would do it for much cheaper than them.

    car won't start with a bad hybrid battery. and you don't want to go replacing it until you are sure it is the problem.

    Hi guys,
    Hopefully you can give me some pointers too. In order to avoid the costly dealer visit or unnecessary parts replacement. I have a couple of Prii in Kauai - so subject to a LOT of corrosion. A 2006 and a 2008. The 2006 works ok for now. The 2008 I cannot get to start. The 12 V bat is fine. The MFD shows about 2-3 bars on the HV bat. After disconnecting the 12V bat and waiting for a few minutes before reconnecting it, I press "start" once. The car goes thru the normal tests (a lot of fault lights show, but I'm familiar with that from the 2006!!!) Then I press and hold the start button, which in the 2006 causes the ICE to start and the Ready light to come on, after a number of "clicks" from some relay in the back. In the 2008 the Ready light might flick on very briefly, but no ICE engine start.

    At the point I am one by one disconnecting components on the 2006 to try to determine which are essential to starting. I haven't yet taken the HV bat appart or got access to it, but that is probably next.

    Smarter people than me have doubtless greater knowledge and any help would be appreciated.
