I am very very interested in upgrading my Prius to have the backview camera capability. Since CoastalETech.com isn't responsive (based on what I have read from some of the posts here), I discovered this site from Car & Driver. It mentions CoastalETech in the ads. I wonder why?!

    http://www.audioandvideointerfaces.com/products.htm

And, the asking price, $279, is actually lower than that of CoastalETech.com. Hmmm...

    Any comments?
If this is not a good alternative, any other suggestion?

It actually looks like the same one Coastal Dave made. He might be selling it somewhere else too.

Well you should be able to find a nicer one. I don't actually like the licence-plate-mounted camera.

Dave did in fact tell us (OK, maybe in PriusOnline) that he has several selling for different car make/models. Why he held back for the Prius is anyone's guess.

The universal viewtech is $259 on Coastal's site, plus $29 for the keypad. This is what the other site is selling, not the Prius specific one.

Is the only difference between the Universal vs the Prius Viewtech the lack of an audio input in the Universal and the presence of one in the Prius one?

That, and how it is controlled. It emulates two of the SAT memory locations, and the brightness and color is controlled using seek buttons and tuning knob.

I have a question about these controllers. Where do I plug the red/yellow/white plug for the audio/video??

Which version, the Prius version or the universal?

For the Prius/Toyota version, it's probably in the wiring harness.

    Prius.

So there's another wire that connects to the controller and on the other end is the jacks for the audio and video?

We'll never know until someone gets one.

Dave, if you ever read this, can you post an owner's manual on your site?
