12,000 miles in and it's looking like I'm finally going to have my first 50 MPG tank - or at least a shot at it. The weather and a new route to my new office has helped a lot on this tank.

What do you think my chances are of holding onto this 50 MPG average now that I'm about 130 miles into it?

Feather that pedal, block off the radiator, and use a block heater. Don't turn on either the air or the heater!!! :D :D

Just don't take any short trips before that point.

typically once i pass 100-150 miles on a tank it's pretty well destined to stay about where it is.

unless i let DH drive :p

offer to do a bunch of the pre-wedding errands... score major points with the wife-to-be and rack up more good mpg history! i get a good start to a tank by filling up and then doing all my errands for the week ;)

    good luck!

Danny, hate to bust your bubble, but in my experience too far to go yet on the tank and too close to the edge to call. I can get a 2mpg swing that close to a full tank but it is colder here. My MFD can show 55mpg when I calculate 48mpg. :( Good luck though. May all your trips be long with a warm ICE. :)

    50.....50.....

You know Danny we have a ChicagoPriusGroup meet coming up in May. At the same dealership where you bought your car. Why don't you and your new bride come up, let's go for some drives, let's see how long it stays at...50.

I have a 2004 Prius that my wife drives and a 2005 that I drive. I've got 300 miles going since my last fill-up and am showing 57.1 mpg! That's my personal record. My wife has a heavier foot and is getting about 49mpg. We are in the Atlanta area.

Actually, Wayne, Nichole and I might look into making a trip up there in May - which weekend is it going to be?

Making that Chicago trip is pretty easy with AirTran out of Charlotte. I'm not driving it again, though :)

wow.. nice Danny! Hmm.. it's waay to close to 50.0mpg and it can easily swing ±1 mpg either way (or worse if you start taking short trips).

I had 49 mpg on my first 100 miles. Now that I'm up to over 200 miles, and the weather's gotten colder again (not terribly, but it's 31F at almost 1:00 pm. It was down to 16 F last night), and my wife driving a lot of short trips, the mileage is down to 39 mpg now.

I forgot to post my follow-up!

I ended up with 50.9 and 507 miles!

Maybe it would have been better if I didn't have to ship all of those ScanGauges from the Group Buy

Danny, you need to use those ScanGauges, not ship them out. Good job with the tank.

Remember the Chicago meet-up is May 20th.

Richmond is not too far to drive. Remember we have our Central VA group meetup tomorrow! :)

Anyway, congrats on your tank. It'll keep getting better!

When I gotten my Prius driving it home from the dealership in IN, my MFD showed about 46 MPG. Over the course of the winter months it went down to about 44 MPG....and that's where it seems to sit right now at 44.3 MPG. I am hoping for higher readings eventually. I have a 46 mile roundtrip each day to work which also includes some highway driving.

I think we should show where our pips are when we show these high mileage tanks.....as of late by the time I lose my first pip I have gone about 80 miles.....on long trips I sometimes make 90-95 miles before the first bar disappears.
