Someone suggested this in another forum - he probably thinks it should be done for all acts of domestic terrorism.

    • Arrest the suspect
    • If innocent, let him go
    • If convicted, let him go, but....
    • ...grant legal immunity to all the runners, victims and their familes, i.e. they can take justice into their own hands

I cannot support this, not for what it would do to the perpetrator, but for how it would dehumanize the rest of us.

I very much believe in citizen self defense by almost any means necessary, but that ends when the criminal event ends. Serious physical means of justice should be reserved to governments acting through judicial due process.

With that in mind- a public hanging or electrocution may do wonders to dissuade future terrorists from testing their luck!

I have mixed feelings over such an punishment...making sure the perp and any wannabees have fear struck in them vs concern the message might backfire.

The one thing I definitely would like to see is limiting the publicity when a suspect is found, so he won't have a big soapbox.

Personally... I believe in due process.

Unfortunately, lawyers are involved, and justice may not be served because of how they play in the courts of law.

    Interesting case here.
Republicans are pushing for him to be labeled enemy combatant.
I wont be surprised if thats Obamas position.
    Tough call here.
Obviously no information will be rendered from interrogation under due process of law.
If you believe the movie about the killing of OBL ,torture seemed to play a role in both Bush and Obamas reign.
So should the bomber have the right to remain silent?

Let him live a long life with 23.5 hours of no human contact and enough exercise to live a a long, long, life in isolation. No books, no news, life in a living grave.

That doesnt address the most important point.
This is the scenario the Republicans have argued.
There could be accomplices planting more bombs at this moment.
Does the Chechen ahole have the right to remain silent?
BTW ,I was firmly against Bushs action ,when he held an American citizen as an enemy combatant.

Put them on trial and if convicted give them a life sentence, just like other mass murderers.

I find myself agreeing with you. That's skeery in itself.:D
What happens to the douchebag, death penalty or life in prison isn't important to me. What is important is finding out if he is part of an organized effort or just a part of a small Beavis and Butthead terrorist group. The surviving suspect being 19 years old and the older dead suspect being older and having spent time back in Chechnia, I suspect the 19 year old is more of a follower that won't be too difficult to get to talk without "enhanced" interrogation.

He's dead, so his rights no longer matter.

This 'enemy combatant' thing is toxic to our Constitution. The younger brother should still be treated as criminally suspect citizen.

There are those small minded people in our country that say the more heinous the crime, the more we should desecrate the constitution to punish the accused. They are the enemy to our way of life.

It is pretty expensive to kill someone and his death is too brief. We all are going to die but we can make the path a living death.

Think Charlie Manson, Terry Nichols, the blind shiek, uni-bomber, Olympic park bomber, under wear bomber, or the shoe bomber. Let them rot in prison, a living death. Given a choice between a coffin with a rotting corpse or a coffin with a living corpse . . . I'm not that kind.

I understand the inmates at GITMO are staging a series of hunger strikes. They drop their weight, get force fed, go off and then the cycle repeats. Self-imposed, works for me.

There is a legal system for a reason, and you must work within that system. Vigilante justice decivilizes society. In this case, it may also make him a martyr. Follow the book with no extra treatment or rules in favour or against him, and that will be the end of it.

We could start by referring to them as Beavis and Butthead instead of giving them the dignity of being called the Boston Marathon Terrorists.
