These days we have high grocery bills but here in Northern Virginia we tend to get higher grocery $credits now when we buy gas.

So I am seeing $2.72/gal avg gaso cost for 2025 in our RAV4HV right at 40 MPG, including all discounts. Our actual pump price I did not record, but maybe $3.20ish. We here in posh NoVA are a little higher cost than national average, wow in southern Va. with lower gaso cost, I imagine it could be more like $2.45/gal. We are at 12,000 miles/yr pace these days so $816 gaso cost per year calc. Add to that $60-70 hybrid penalty I have to pay the state for owning a 40 MPG car (idiots!)

Seems to me with all the discounts these days, pump price is not the whole price story anymore. I think I could even do better if I got a Shell credit card with discount, stuff like that. I have not yet optimized joining all available discount opportunities..

we don't have any discounts locally. there's a costco about 10 miles away, but we'd have to join, and sit in long lines to fill up.
we're only doing a few thousand miles a year in the hycam, so it just isn't worth the time or trouble.
    gas is around $2.70-80.
