I have also noticed that on longer drives, I miss having a well positioned armrest for my left elbow. So today I put the finishing touches on my version. It's not real pretty but it seems to work well. My wife even volunteered to go outside and help me with the photoshoot. :D

The hard part was making the "bootheel" that fits into the pocket on the drivers door. After shaping the "bootheel", I glued and used countersunk screws to attach it to a piece of 3/4" thick X 3" flat pine. I then added approximately 1-1/2" of closed cell polyethylene foam cut from an old pool toy. Wrapped in some gray vinyl I had found in the basement.

Very secure when installed. It doesn't move... and requires no tape or other attaching materials. If I don't want to use it.... it just lifts out.
