The studless winter/snow tire at Les Schwab is the Toyo 'Observe' / G02+
Anybody have any experience with them?
    Heard of anyone that has?

While I have always been impressed with Les Shwab as a business, to the best of my knowledge, none of their tires are Low Rolling Resistance (LRR) So you will take a large gas mileage hit.

    Nokian WRG2

is an example of a LRR snow tire

    tks Jimbo.
    It's all about safety.
She'll drive it maybe 70 miles/week until spring.
Just wanna make sure she gets there and back.
If she only gets 40 mpg then so be it.
That's still 3 times what we get in the other car.
Have been putting Les Schwab tires on all my cars/trucks for 30 years.
Good stuff, great service, lotsa locations in areas we live/travel.
Have been putting studded tires on my work van each year and have had fabulous results.
This is my first move into the studless area.

    tks again

You can save a bundle by purchasing the Michelin X-Ice Xi2 or Xi3 today at Discount Tire/America's Tire Center. They are offering a $100 rebate on the purchase of 4 tires AND Michelin has their $70 rebate going. The X-ice is a highly rated studless snow tire AND it is LRR.

Their website is kinda finicky. They can order them if they are not in stock in you area. America's Tire is their retail outlet so you can call one of those stores also.

Well they have them. I got a great deal on a set of 4 with 4 winter wheels for $520 after all the rebates! The additional benefit is the ATC/Discount Tire will always offer much better deals than LS does & they also give excellent service.

I purchased a set of these as well, but I haven't had them put on yet.
For me they came out a little cheaper than tirerack but with free tire swapping and saving $100 I couldn't complain.
Wish I could give you any real feedback, but that's what I went with.
Online reviews seemed pretty good on them though.

    tks Wayward.
    you purchased the Toyo tire?

    -S'chargedMR2:
Closest Discount Tire to us is about 3 hours away.
Would love to find a deal like that on wheels and tires.
That's why I was curious about the weight of the stock wheel.
Primary goal is safety but figuredd I'd look into a set of wheels about the same weight as stock, install winter tires on them, and store at home to remove and install myself.

Yeah I did purchase the Toyos. I asked him specifically how they would compare to the new Ice'3 and he told me they would hold their own against any other studless tire.
I then asked the manager how the resistance rating was on them, I don't think he really knew what I was getting at but he did tell me they had a green rating.

I was going to get the Michelin's, I had them in my cart at tire rack, but at over $900 for wheels and tires before the rebate I just couldn't do it without check with Schwab first.
It was like $530 for the tires, and the steelies were $232.
I asked about tpms and cost of swapping tires.
They normally charge $55 each time but if you buy the tires from them and they are on their own wheels they do it for free everytime. TPMS they don't care and don't enforce it, he was like if you don't mind the light we don't mind doing it.
He said very few people actually get a second set of TPMS.
I figure up here we only have a few months when we really need them anyways, so to save money and get them swapped for free every time was worth it for me.
But they are holding the wheels and tires for me until a week from this Saturday, I didn't want to put them on too early.

I got a $478.00 number from Les, tire install only, Toyo 'Observe'.
After some research found they were pretty highly rated.
I just left Costco and they had Blizzaks and the 3rd gen Michelin Ice's.
One at $560 the other over $600. The name brings in some coin I think.
They say they'll have a sale coming soon. Probly $70-$75 off total.
I'll bet they are a fantastic tire but that's a lotta dough for as little as we will drive the Prius.
If I have a new set of 'pretty damn good' tires I'll be pleased as we'll only put about 1500 miles a year on them.
Was actually thinking of a cheap set of steels for the winter, maybe with moon hubs on them.
    Will look into it.
We could actually get the snow anytime between now and T'giving.
    Probly you too.
I used to get 4 studded on my work van from Nov 1st to April as I was a service technician that covered from Wenatchee, Wa. to Baker City, Or.
Last year it was snowing like a mofo on Nov. 1st and I sat in the Les Schwab waiting area for about 4 hours.

This year I don't have to worry about that because they laid me off after 34 years in the business.
So I got that goin' for me.

    Tks for info!

$478? you suck lol... if that's mounted and balanced with tax that's pretty good, my price included all that as well.
I would be lucky to put 1500 miles on in a winter, but you never know, I don't pay much attention to my winter mileage just my annual. But with the Prius I am paying much more attention to everything.
I barely average about 5000 miles a year on my cars since I use my motorcycle as much as possible.

I thought we were going to get snow this week but then it warmed back up and now there is no snow in the forecast, so who knows.
So I will wait until the 10th to get my tires swapped, I would wait longer but that is all he said he would hold them for me lol.
    Glad I could help.

Nope, just my pile to wash. I fill up the hamper & then clean them. With 6 cars I use a lot of towels! :) I work in the medical field as an ESWL tech.
