First let me say that I love my Prius! I haven't had this much fun driving a car since I was a kid. I'm also getting a kick out of the various mods that I'm reading about in this forum. Last weekend I replaced replaced my stock horns with the PIAA 400/500 Hz set, and now I'm looking for my next project. :D

Has anybody upgraded the shift knob? I was looking at the MoMo site (MOMOUSA) and thought it might be pretty cool to try one out.

    Very interesting!

The site has some nice shifters. Have to see if the shifter knob can be removed.

Yeah, I think it could be a pretty awesome mod... I've attached a pic of the shifter that I'm considering. Just curious if anybody has tried something like this, and if they were successful.

This one could bring in a whole new Prius demographic.

While I too agree some of those knobs would look nice, ..... nobody has asked the question, What is the size of shaft the knob attaches to, thread diameter and pitch would be nice to know ... I do not want to kludge something together Its gonna fit right or I am not wasting over a hundred bucks for a knob!!!

In checking the Momo's website, I cannot find info addressing this question???

We all need to get some facts!!

There are some interesting looking knobs .......

    We will see!

I can hear the scream now: "You spent how much on that stupid thing?" The $105 for the atomic knob is a bit out of my price range by about $95. I have an old three speed knob from a Mustang, wonder if that would fit, could cause a lot of confusion to the nosy folks who look in the car!

Just a quick update.... I have been shopping on eBay to get a better price, and have contacted two sellers asking if these shift knobs will work for this application. Only one has responded so far and simply said, "Good Fit". Now I don't know about you guys, but I'd like just a tad more reassurance that this is going to work before I plunk down the cha-ching!

Has anyone removed their shiftknob? I looked at mine today while I was on my lunch break and it didn't want to come off. Doesn't look like there is much of a shaft to work with to attach a aftermarket shifter?

That's funny... I was doing the same thing today... try to feel & look all around the shifter for even the smallest indication of how to remove it without the use of a jack-hammer. Nada! I tried a gentle twist, but still nothing.

Surely somebody has tinkered with this thing?!?

I took the knob off yesterday. It's a simple unscrew like any normal stick shift would have, but the diameter of the post is very small compared to a "normal" shaft. If the the momo knob is help on by set screws alone that should work.

I think the only issue with the momo knobs is that there may not be enough clearance from the end of the shaft and the shift "gate"...the knob could end up sticking way out there.

According to these pictures, It doesn't look like it's actually screwed on, but it is eventually twisted off. I see no shaft threads.

Can anyone comment on whether shaft threads exist?
