Anymore group buy for the EV Button and Housing from Japan?

    I own a Silver model 2004 Prius. I would like to add the orginal OEM EV button and housing to the car. Please help if you can.

    Doesn't the installation of the EV button in the American version of the car void the warranty?? Seems like high risk to eliminate your battery warranty or some other electric subcomponent if something goes wrong.

    So far it's untested. Apparently because of the way that warrantys work in the US, the manufacturer can't void the warranty unless they can prove that the modification was responsible for damage.

    That said, mine is a Canadian '04, and although I'd love to have it installed in mine, I just can't see messing up an 8-year warranty for EV mode. Hopefully at some point Toyota will smarten-up and allow dealers to install the option, or let people know that it won't mess up their warranty.

    As DaveG mentioned it's not clear, at this point, whether it would void the warranty. Clearly, if you have a problem unrelated to the HV ECU or battery is 'shouldn't' affect the warranty. Also clearly if you DO trash your HV battery or short out the ECU that Toyota N.A. may give you some problems about covering those under warranty, particularly if they can show that you did the mod incorrectly and that that install directly led to the problem.

    I also think that an intelligent arguement if confronted with 'you void the warranty by installing the button' when it is NOT clear that your install is a direct cause would be the evidence that the ECU IS programmed for the button and it IS standard elsewhere. But, as you suggest, it IS a big risk. I'm financially comfortable enough to accept that risk (which I consider quite small but real), if you are not and a $4000 ECU or battery would be a major financial hit then I would not recommend self-installing the EV button. If you bide you time it may become a dealer installed option in the US in the future...or it may not, we just don't know yet.

    I'd ask that the group buy wait a few months to get bigger membership. Also I want in, and I have not got my car yet :)
