    ... but it will leave neighboring electric customers in the dark, when its rapid-charge system causes local black- and brown-outs.

    One can only wonder with all that batteries what is the premium?

    IMHO hydraulic hybrids are made for applications like this. No issue with packaging, cheap, huge charge/discharge rates, can be charged in minutes if need to.

    Come to think trolleybuses fixture in many european cities are even cheaper and better.

    Baltimore has diesel hybrid "charm city express" buses running around town.

    I'm confused by the headline vs. text of the story. The headline says 18 hours electric only, but the text of the article says:
    "With a full tank, though, and ultra-quick charges at either end of the line, the Arctic Whisper, in limited real-world trials, can operate for approximately 18 hours."

    That sounds to me like there is both diesel fuel use and recharging to get 18 hours of service.

    What's going on here? Anyone know?
