The top of the rear bumper does need to be protected but I would recommend a longer piece. Some members have affixed bumper guards for different models successfully. No opinion on the splashguards.

 

I just got the rear bumper guard here thru the Priuschatshop. Think the price works out to be the same since the Priuschatshop includeds free shipping. And buying from them helps support this great site.

 

I got both the bumper protector and the mudguards from EBay and put them on my 2006 when I bought it over a year ago. I am very pleased with both of them and have had no problems. I had the dealer install the mudguards for me and I put the bumper protector on myself (it was a simple peal and stick application). I would recommend them for anyone considering the purchase.
