"The Central Intelligence Agency owns everyone of any significance in the major media."

I take that with a big grain of salt. The CIA does not need to "own" the major media, because the interests of the CIA and the interests of the owners of major media are congruent.

Does Colby mean the major media is on the CIA payroll? Or that they are so afraid of the CIA they do what they are told? Or merely that they trust the CIA to act in their own best interest and will therefore report the news the way the CIA advises them to?

After all, major media is owned by the same super-rich who own our government, of which the CIA is a part.

It might be more correct to say that major media is a shareholder in the CIA, and takes the CIA's advice the same way that when the electrician tells you you need a 20-amp circuit and X-gauge wiring in a given room of your house, you take his advice.

Good point. I think he meant there are CIA shills in key editorial positions in the major US media outlets. These are the people who told us, for example, within a few hours of the 9/11 attacks, that it was Al-qaeda even though we still have no proof of this.
