An American President was verbally abused and disrespected by the "President's" of Iran and Venezuela. Does this bother you? Do you think the leadership of the Democratic Party should have come out and said something?

I am curious as to why the NY Times and the WaPo buried this story which was one of the lead stories of yesterday's news cycles. In both papers they buried it on pages 16 and 18 respectively - why?

Not that I agree with what they said... are you bothered by the president's description of Iran as part of an 'axis of evil'? Or is this a double standard?

I might be annoyed by the president of Venezuela's characterization of Bush if it weren't true. I don't like liars.

Why should I be bothered about the ravings of a couple of lunatics? It's common knowledge they don't like Bush or the administration. They've both made anti-US comments before and will again. They're a couple of idiots who don't deserve the front page. I put as much stock in their comments about Bush as I do Michael Moore's.

And Jonnycat's question is a fair one. If you're going to get your undies in a bundle because our leader was "disrespected" by another world leader, then you should insist that our President not "disrespect" other world leaders.

Chavez's speach didn't deserve any more than a footnote. It was so undiplomatic and so much propaganda that to put it on the front page or anywhere else would have granted him way more credit than he deserves.

    I didn't get to her Amadinijan's speach, though I wish I had.

I agree with you - but since it got the spotlight I thought that the Democratic leadership should have stood up and expressed outrage at this nut saying what he did about a US President. President Yabadabadoo from Iran said the same stuff. So two keynote speakers dissed our President - and nothing from the Democrats or not even any weight given it by the print media although the electronic media was all over it.

And thank you for striking on the point of this post!

Please quote one instance of Bush delivering a similar speach in someone elses country. Thanks.

Actually, I am rather happy with their speeches.

After Chavez's, “the devil was here yesterday,†speech, I can't imagine Venezuela receiving the upcoming open seat on the UN Security Counsel.

What a boob! I think he shot himself in the foot. :p

If Venezuela does receive the seat, the USA should consider withholding much of its $5,000,000 PER DAY (1.8+ billion per year!) payments to the UN.

Let Venezuela and Iran make up the difference with their oil money they so freely spread around the world. ;)

Go back & re-read my post. I never said he did. I just said Johnnycat's question was a valid one.

Our politicians are too well-schooled to stand in behind a podium and call another leader "satan".

Sure. George Bush is an idiot. It would have been more appropriate that they had called him an idiot. What was it that they called him anyways?

Considering the White House said Chavez's speech wasn't worthy of response, then why should they. But they have. Nancy Pelosi, the Senator frequently vilified by neo-cons, responded by calling Chavez a thug.
Please explain to me how Iran's president "verbally abused and disrespected" Mr. Bush?

To busy to do something you obviously could google. Pelosi just did stand up a little.

My point is that Chavez and Yabadabadoo of Iran sound exactly like the liberal left wing and the Democrats of this country - no difference. How could it feel if you were them to agree and stand shoulder to shoulder with nuts and murderers.

And that's just as ridiculous and undiplomatic as Chaves' speach. I suspect you didn't even listen to either speach or you'd never say that.

I read the speech. You're the one who claimed they both "verbally abused and disrespected" President Bush. I'm asking why you feel Ahmadinejad's speech fits into that category. Especially since he never actually mentioned President Bush in the speech.

How did you become a Doctor, anyway? You consistently make claims and then ask others to do your research. If you have enough time on your hands to reply to posts, you have enough time to clarify your position.

Show me ONE place where a member of the Democratic party has called President Bush "the devil". I'm pretty sure none of them have ever called the United States "the gravest threat looking over our planet, placing at risk the very survival of the human species" either.

Add Democrat Charles Rangel to the Democrats who strongly spoke out against Chaves' speach.

"You don't come into my country; you don't come into my congressional district and you don't condemn my president," Rep. Charles Rangel, D-New York, scolded Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

Was it really the US and his congressional district, if a person is at the U.N.? Is the U.N. international soil, or still belongs to the U.S.?

It is international soil, technically. But obviously, physically, it is in the US. Further, Chaves was out and about in Harlem today saying much the same stuff...definately not on international soil.

Harlem is Charlie Rangel's district BTW.
