area colors nav sys meaning

Is there any significance to the colors used in different areas of the navigation maps? I thought green was for state parks but I see other colors being used.

Northern Michigan

Vehicle:

2006 Prius

Golf courses and such are green. State and national parks can be purple. Water is blue.

I'm sure someone will have exceptions or more detail, but that is what I recall.

I know that military bases and government facilities show up as a different color, I'm not sure what it is but I think it may be pea-green.
