I'd heard about these tax deductions businesses buying huge SUVs but I didn't realize the amount was so large until I read this article.

Yup. Can you say "loop hole?"

I cringe every time somebody complains about my big tax break for the Prius. "We're paying for you car!" they rant. Well, we *should* be paying for the solution. Giving tax breaks for the problem is just insane.

Yep. When I first heard about that a couple years ago, I printed it. Only once do people talk to me mockingly about the hybrid tax incentives. After I whip out that piece, they don't bother me again.

But it does explain why I see so many Hummers with a little business labelling on the sides or windows.

wait.. i dont really understand this claim for depreciation business... so if you get a 60,000 dollar suv you can get the inital 25 and then 35 for depreciation over x amount of years so you really only pay nothing?

edited b/c my math was wrong. i'm a lame excuse for an engineer =_=

I think someone a while back indicated that initially the tax breaks were aimed for agricultural use. At the time, the lawmakers didn't expect personal vehicles to reach that weight.

i think there should be a limit to how heavy a car can be. i mean... if they keep going heavier and heavier its just going to get more dangerous for other people on the road
