I'm wondering to what extent a new stereo system will be able to utilize the touch screen. I like the screen and would like to keep using it to change channels and adjust audio properties and other stuff. But the way I listen to music, it will only be a matter of months before I ruin the stock speakers. Besides, that roomy trunk is begging for a fitted box with matched subs. Does the stock stereo (package 4) have RCAs for an amp? Any complicated electrical issues?

It depends on how you do it. I'm having a system installed in my 2006 that will keep all of the factory functions intact, but will give far superior sound. There are a couple of special "black boxes" you need to preserve the factory integration functions.

You can check my link in my signature for some of the stuff I'm doing (on last page or two), or try this thread. It has a lot more detail about my install and about other stuff too.

Edit: You can find info on the gear I'm using at http://www.jlaudio.com. Of course you can use any type of speakers and amps, but you will need a pice like the Cleansweep to get it to work well. I bleive that ROckford Fosgate has a piece works similarly, and Audio Control makes a summing unit like the Cleansweep SSI.
