August Sales.. Volt leads the pac new overall sales record, Leaf and PIP set records too.

From hybrids to Plug-ins to EVs; hope this is the direction we are moving to as battery costs get under control. I hope Tesla can reduce their battery costs soon. I think Volt is now priced right to be under 30k after tax credits.

Had they dropped the price before I bought a Prius, the Volt would have been a very tempting alternative.

 

Plucked this from the Inside EV comment section...speculation as to future of USA PHEV incentives program is a future article being prepared.

 

Sales were up across the board for all vehicles including Plug-ins!

this has been record month for the industry.... excellent sales. Toyota/Lexus sold around 40k hybrids in August.

 

Especially when one considers that gas prices have been both low and steady for months.

 

gm has been advertising the volt hot and heavy here. i have to give them credit, i don't see much for pip or leaf.

 

PIP and Leaf don't need to advertise, they sell on word of mouth.

 

Hard to tell that from past PPI numbers.

 

America Loves Electric Vehicles – Passes 10,000 Sold For First Time In August


Its going to be hard for the plug-in enemies to get another story out there that nobody wants plug-in cars. This represents over 100% growth from last year.

 

.....seems hard to imagine there was suddenly a huge run on PiP's in August, unless something going on in CA/HOV explains it, or some kind of lumping of numbers for several months.

I read on Yahoo!Finance that leasing is up to 25+% in 2013, are we just looking at data here on purchases by lease middleman companies?

Be interesting to do suvey here for %Leased on new Prii.

 

It may be as simple as the dealers actually talking to customers instead of bad mouthing plug-ins. With the discounts and the hov stickers it seems that they should be selling better than they have.

Maybe all the talk about California HOV lane stickers being extended to 2019 made people bite.

 

But that was yesterday, Sept. Not August.

I say it has to do with price slashing... except for Tesla of course.

Every manufacturers are giving 0% financing and/or cheap lease #s to make this happen.

 

If there were deals to bring the PiP roughly in line with the hatchback I would expect sales to soar.
Or perhaps they are quietly making them more widely available?
If not, I certainly hope they look at this and reconsider expanding sales to other states.

 

True but the buzz has been going on for some time.

I agree that the pricing structure likely contributed the most. Those 2013 models have to go and all the other EV manufacturers are lowering their prices!
