Aux Line In Suggestion (for MP3 & XM?)

    This is courtesy of Nate from the Prius-2G Yahoo site/daily email exchange. It seems like it should work for both MP3 and XM radio (the latter hooked up to an XM receiver):

    Okay, so I think this will work, but don't have a Prius of my own to
    try it on. I am extremely confident this will work for non-NAV
    Priuses and those without the extra 6-CD changer in the pocket below:

    I have used these two parts on an 2004 Sienna and it works well:

    Combine this part number:

    08695-00370

    and you've got yourself a line in!

    How to use it? On the Sienna, you push the "DISC" button on the
    radio or the "Mode" button on the Steering Wheel. If you push it
    once, it says "CD" and goes to the real CD Player and starts
    playing. If you push it again, it says "CD1" and now accepts the
    line in!

    Why do I think this will work on the Prius? The adapter is the same
    part number as the Prius CD changer adapter, that means that
    the "protocol" (pinouts, voltages, communication signals) is likely
    the SAME as other Toyota Stereos/ CD Changers.

    -I suspect that is will NOT work with NAV installed.
    -I don't own a Prius yet, so I can't try it myself.

    I'm hoping someone will try this setup and report back to the group.

    Good luck. I make no promises, as I have not yet tried this myself.

    Thanks guys, these are some great posts.

    Does anyone know what's special about the iPod that lets it understand the commands issued from the steering wheel controls?

    Are there any other MP3 players that accept these commands (even if there isn't a kit for it yet)? I'm trying to steer away from using an iPod, but it seems I might not have a choice if I want to use the steering wheel controls.

    Yes, the icelink connects to the ipod's remote control connector. Not magic, but still pretty cool.

    We're working on an AUX-IN module as well, but it's not ready yet. It will work with the XM installed.

    Just to check: can the XM be installed if your Prius doesn't come with the DVD navigator system?

    Yes.

    The PriusXM kit can be installed in ANY 2004 Prius as delivered from the factory.

    If you have added something to the car at the dealer, like a floor-mounted CD changer, you might not be able to add PriusXM...

    Ultimately, 99.99% of them can take the kit.

    Will the AUX-IN unit go into the cubby below the radio or will it just be a simple plug that can be installed anywhere? The MINI Cooper's AUX-IN is located in the glove box. Will the AUX-IN be selectable from the touch screen? Thanks!

    I don't want to give too much detail on the AUX-in just now as it is a few weeks (maybe even 2 months) off from being ready for release.

    It will work through the XM screen - meaning you will put the radio in XM mode before being able to listen to the AUX device.

    We have plans to recommend putting the jacks under the dash, but you will be able to mount the jacks wherever you wish. They will be very inconspicuous and the plan is to leave your cubby alone.

    I will post details all over the place when they are available.

    Thanks for the info! That sounds like a nice set-up you guys are working on. I'd like to get SIRIUS integrated with the Prius, but if the best I can do is the AUX-IN method I'll be happy.
