Ok I just heard that some prius were experiencing battery issues in the winter... I live in Lyndhurst NJ and have a 2011 Prius IV .... should I be concerned?

Which battery? 12V? I have had no issues in the Midwest. I have even left the car for weeks in frigid temperatures and nothing happened.

Be aware of source, since there are some intentionally spreading misconceptions... especially now that gas prices are getting high.

I certainly haven't had any trouble over the previous 11 years driving Prius in the winter in Minnesota...

    The oem tires are poor.
We got snow tires for one and a good set of all-season tires for the other. Both performed very well for us in Minnesota.

PS Have had no issues with the battery in either car (except one that we didn't start for ~4 months).

No problems with either battery up here (AK). Use studded snow tires in the winter... highly recommended. The Prius does just as good as any other front wheel drive car I have ever driven in.

Every so often our Prius show us what we don't know. The 12 volt battery in the Prius tends to last about 4 years, and this is true in most every other car as well, no surprise. But the 12 volt battery in the Prius does not run a starter, do you know another way to predict upcoming failure other than that slow starter sound?

A Prius owner can be blindsided by a dead 12 volt battery through not recognizing symptoms. If your Power Windows are much slower in Accessory than in Ready, if your Radio Presets or trip odometers forget what they were set at, if your Prius seems to run at stop signs/lights more than it used to, suspect and test the 12 volt battery.

Yep and the other question is: source? If it's a person, do they even own a Prius?
