My friend with a new Prius was experiencing problems with a dead battery a few times each week. He said that it is his habit to go out to his car at lunch and listen to one of his books on tape while eating his lunch. He sits on the passenger side for more space. Well, the dealer had his car for a week and couldn't find anything wrong. ( They made him drive a Scion during that time and he was terribly embarrassed to be seen in it. ) Anyway, he got the car back, took it to work and followed his usual routine. He needed to go to a meeting that day so went out to his car about an hour earlier than usual and thought he detected a faint glow from the tail lights. The lights were on and the battery was all but dead. Well, turns out that at lunch he would hit the power switch once to bring up the accessory mode to listen to his tape. When finished, he hit Power 2 more times and then left. Well, since he was leaving from the passenger side, and had his lights on Auto, and in Auto switching off the lights is activated by the driver's side door.....

Definite example of 'cockpit error' - maybe it is the failure to be in the cockpit that caused the problem. He was able to laugh about it, fortunately. Thrilled that it was his mistake and not a problem with his car.
