"Allan Pineda of the Black Eyed Peas honored his homeland with a rap in Tagalog. 'Bebot' has become a surprise phenomenon."

"Pineda was surprised by the passions "Bebot" stirred. So, early this year, he financed two music videos for the song."

Do you think this will be the Pilipino "Macarena"? Many young Americans (non filipino)dancing to it.

"Thanks to the song "Bebot" written by Apl. De Ap of The Black Eyed Peas, words such as: Filipino, Sige, and of course, Bebot have invaded the vocabulary of mainstream America and the rest of the world."

See the videos to realize (YouTube):

COOL! :) Not being much of a fan of rap (always felt they left the leading C off the name), so we never realised that they had a filipino in the band. My wife (a flilipina) is already fast asleep for the evening, so I printed out the LA Times article you linked, suspect there will be some Black Eyed Peas entering our musical collection in the near future.

I'm not much of a Rap fan either, but Pineda really went the effort for an excellent and innovative rap about the filipino experience. It's really kind of catchy, and I'm not from the Philippines. (BTW-good thing you printed it as LA Times will be archiving it soon. There are probably other videos of 'bebot' on YouTube in case it gets archived.) I liked the Gen1 1930s version, but more young people seem to like the LA version under 'alternate' video.

"They also won favorite rap/hip-hop album for "Monkey Business."
