Seems as if some of you guys seem bored....probably because the forum has not been all that cooperative with all the outages.

My dad made me a CD of all "important songs of all time."

Which means songs of the 1960s and 70;s.

I actually like most of them. But, just wondering what you all might think. This is one of my tops....maybe a bit of wishing....O.K. stop. I am not Suzie Q.

So, suzie aside, any others. ... somewhat like a lot of Dylan...

You'd have to include a few of Peter, Paul and Mary songs on that there list. Best Google it or try ' if I had a hammer', 'blowing in the wind' or 'Where have all the flowers gone.'

We saw Country Joe McDonald, at a Vancouver "earth day", maybe a decade back. All by his lonesome on a small stage, audience a small group sitting on the lawn. Just and electrified acoustic guitar, IIRC.

The front row got up and started walking back up a bit of a hill, for a better vantage I guess. Until he barked at them "where do you think you're going", and they filed back, sheepish. Turned out they were the Fish, lol.

I graduated high school in 1968 so I grew up with this music but it has become 'elevator music' to me. So I use Internet radio to find college stations that play music less than five years old.

Lordy, my sister graduated from HS in 1969 and I was the way younger little brother so I grew up hearing all the Woodstock (the original real one) music plus my generation's music. I've got terabytes of this stuff all in lossless FLAC files.

In a hurry, but one of my favorite albums is Blood on the Tracks from that era -- Bob Zimmerman. Of course, the Last Waltz from the Band.

Oh, without getting this shoved into the house of politics, which I have no access to....one of the reasons I posted about the protest songs that my dad is so into is that it seems there is a circus in D.C., which might just make protest more important.

Again, I don't want to take this thread into that swamp, though.

So, Tideland, if you do bump this to the politics swamp, would you please give me access....

You should give Triple J a go. It's the "youth station" of the Australian state broadcaster ABC. It really is an excellent radio station: it introduces loads of brilliant new music (and some rubbish), and it doesn't treat its listeners like idiots. Your evening (our lunchtime and early-evening shows) and your late afternoon (our breakfast show) are particularly good.

    You can listen at

It's on TuneIn and Simple Radio on your phone too.

    Good question.

If only I knew where the answer might be.

This would never, ever happen in my family. At a push, my Dad can play a CD. He sometimes manages to send me an e-mail.

After two days of solid tutoring by my brother-in-law, he can now send me a WhatsApp message. Or, more often, a blank message that means I know he is trying to contact me.

I'm a youth of 80s Britain, so it's a whole different set of protest music.

I do like Billy Bragg a lot.

Cheer up, Billy! It might never happen!

There was some cheery protest music around too, though.

Oh, and this is my favourite protest song of the past couple of years. It's about issues facing Australian Aboriginal kids.
