Queen Elizabeth is faced with a dilemma. Lead a 54-nation soft empire, or retire and watch Doctor Who all day. It really is a hard decision for her.

 

I'd rather have a Royal family with all the issues that go with it than ever have a President Blair or President Brown. A country needs a head of state and the Presidential system alienates half the population that didn't vote for the President. At least with a Royal family peoples on both sides like them and in the UK it usually runs at 2/3's of the population in favour of a monarchy.

Someone somewhere will get the get the big posh houses, the helicopters, the private jets. May as well as make it a monarchy where it attracts tourists from all over than someone who comes and goes every 5 years (well unless you live in Russia or Zimbabwe).

Well if Obama can be Irish (in a rather tenuous way), why not have a bit of Indian in our Prince? Heck, we're all related somewhere down the line anyway.

Our family was one of those involved in that massive European DNA profiling because we had strong roots from an area with heavy viking immigration 1,000 years ago. I always thought I had a Roman nose and that we may have had some Mediterranean lineage too, but no, we're apparently 100% celt (Irish and/or Welsh to our American friends).

It's all good fun this ancestry stuff

 

Oh you shouldn't have one. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with being a Republic, but equally there's also nothing wrong with being a Monarchy either. Pros and cons to both.


For a bit of fun you could have a national lottery to select the new American Royal Family. Make it into a tv show, have sponsorship, reality shows. Wow, I think this could be a money spinner. Just think of the American take on a royal family. "Here's the King, brought to you today by Google and Coka Cola, their automobile by Chrysler and their private jet by....." Such a missed commercial opportunity.

 

The royal family is a great, albeit expensive distraction from the government that robs you blind. We have the same thing here, it's called Hollywood.

 

In the UK the Royalty is a point of Pride.
