I was curious, I really love our Prius and all of its features. However does anyone know if Toyota plans on making the car a little longer or wider in 2008?

What are the changes for 2008?

Does anyone know what we have to look forward to?

I was thinking of trying to hold out for the 2008 model, my 2004 just hit 45k..

    :)

According to the spy pics I posted, it seems like the chassis will be the same so expect the same wheelbase. I don't know about length or width.

It would be cool if they have a Prius Plus (e.g. mpv style... Mazda5/Corolla Verso)

I was hoping ther might lengthen the prius a cpl of inches. The car is wonderful but would be even more cool as a wagon with hatchback rear.. :)

In general it seems that cars grow. Back in 1980 the Corona was the middle of Toyota's car line with the Corolla being the small car. The Corona was replaced by the Camry.

Today the Prius is the same length as the 1980 Corona and the Corolla is 3 inches longer than the Pruis.

Guess I'm gonna have to stick with this one then...Even if we DO ever clean up our garage, its configuration is such that, next to the full size sedan driven by dh, I could not possibly get a longer or wider car under cover and still get into the house! Unless, of course, I make dh park on the street...gee, THERE'S an idea...

Just to be obstinate, I'd rather see a smaller sports coupe version. I don't need 4 doors, though the hatch is great. Maybe an updated MR2 hatchback coupe. And, no, I don't like the Insight. B)

But the Corolla has 1.2 cu ft LESS cargo capacity and 5.9 cu ft LESS passenger area. Owing, I suppose, principally to all the space needed under the hood for the larger ICE. :)

Also, I think, due to the headroom. The Pri is taller than both family beemers...an '02 series 5 and an '87 series 7(!). (Calm down--we are selling the old beemer and dh got to pick his car just like I got to pick mine...and he will NOT buy a car w/out a stick shift...)

    If you're listening Toyota.

I sincerely hope the answer is a resounding NO NO NO to making the Prius bigger.

America has quite enough oversized vehicles, thank you. The Prius is just fine where it is.

Please, Please resist the temptation to 'upsize' with every redesign. That's how we got where we are now.

I can't think of a worse thing to do to the Prius.

Expect Toyota to get edgier with its next-generation Corolla, hitting showrooms in late 2007--especially after Toyota execs demanded a last-minute redesign after seeing the daring Civic at the Geneva Motor Show. This change illustrates the automaker's resolve to shake its "conservative" image, at the penalty of about six months' production delay. The 2008 should bridge the generation gap between the Scion and Toyota lines and will have more interior volume than the current model. While the Scion roster consists of hatchbacks, the Corolla will continue here as a three-box sedan, with hatchback versions for overseas markets only. A hybrid-powered version may follow.

    2008 Toyota Highlander
Redesigned on the Avalon platform, growing larger in size to make room for the RAV4.

    2008 Toyota Matrix
    Redesign.

I would like a wagon version, but will have to settle with the sedan.. The new highlander looks cool too less boxy

Toyota, in the person of TMS_USA DOES read this forum.

Just in case, however, as my gramma used to say, from your mouth to god's ear!

Toyota follows this this forum carefully. That's why in response to so many requests for adjustable seats they have given us a chrome grille, a hybrid badge, and prettier headlights.

Indeed. As much as I wish the Prius can be a bit wider, I like the manoeuvrability of the current Prius. I can squeeze by traffic quite easily with a short hood and narrow chassis. I would never attempt the same feat with the Camry.

    Dude,

Hatchback is as far as I am willing to go. A wagon, maybe paneled like, Clark W. Griswald? C'mon! Isn't Toyota coming out with a "fertility mobile" aka minivan hybrid?

  Im not talking about the old camry wagon style just a model with a matrix rear that wagon style..

Im hearing a few say they would like a 2 dr model, they could put the synergy drive in a yaris 2dr for that..

The Prius in a hatchback sedan is a fine automobile! but it mite be nice to have a cpl of different body styles offered on the most popular vehicle being sold...

I have heard in japan they have a hybrid minivan, that has the same front as the prius...

Oh no! Now we are going to start a new kind of smugness ... my prius is bigger than yours ... wider is better ...

Oh please, let's not get into prius envy!

I agree -- no need to make it bigger. My last car was a 1996 Infiniti I30, bought used. I really loved the car -- its handling and comfort -- but I always felt it was unnecessarily big for me. Usually, it was just me -- sometimes one or two other people in the car. It was nice if I was driving to lunch or something and could take four passengers comfortably, but now I don't drive to work, so I hardly ever need to drive that many people.

Of course, if you have a large family that you have to transport on a regular basis, the Prius might be a little small. Then maybe go for the Camry Hybrid.

(BTW, I never liked the Camry. Haven't driven one recently but when I test drove one in the past I always felt the suspension was way too slushy and I didn't like the styling at all.)
