This is great. Check out this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8etMHn4P6g

Note how O'Reilly never gives Dawkins a chance to speak - he would rather spew out his ignorance than take the chance of learning something from someone far more intelligent. Aggressive ridicule is his modus operandi. Only question: why would Dawkins agree to sit in the same room as this neaderthal? His book is already a best-seller.

The best example of a blustering buffoon I've seen.

I cannot sit through shows like that. The idiots hosting the show are normally NOT educated in an scientific way and act as if they know more than their guest.

It is much like a business major, on my campus, argueing with me about ecosystem health in our local watershed. Wth are they thinking?

It makes you cringe. The only thing worse than ignorance is arrogant ignorance.

So true it makes me sick! Ignorance can be fixed. Arrogant igrnoance won't allow new data in so they remain ignorant.

a lot of times, ignorance is the preferred status because knowing the topic would clue them in that they're wrong

Perfect. It' called delusional thinking. Another good term is "false consciousness". What a powerful tool religion is for keeping people from thinking clearly. Keep them thinking about Jesus, and they won't bother about the trillions missing from the pentagon.

It would be much worse should Dawkins and others refuse to make themselves visible in such venues, because if they limited themselves to the friendly venues, then they really would only be preaching to the choir (if you'll forgive the ironic metaphor). Certainly they won't change many minds - may not even change ANY minds - but they're at least getting the information out where it most needs to be heard.

O'Reilly has shown himself to be such a self-evident idiot on so many occasions one has to wonder at what kinds of personalities make up his regular audience. I would postulate that the proportion of genuinely critical thinkers, or genuinely curious intellects in that audience would have to be small, since O'Reilly's approach is actively hostile to and repels critical thought and curiosity.

    :)

I should state that the same goes for any shows like these. It doesn't matter if they are preaching my views or not. I just dislike arrogant blathering no matter what side they are on. :)

I know - I don't care which side they are on but when they are all yelling at the same time I can't even understand what they are saying.

I thought it was hilarious. Richard Dawkins has probably heard by now every "argument" there is for the existence of god. But O'Reilly starts with "What about the tides? How do you explain that!"

You could see Richard's thoughts in his facial expression "Is this a trap? No. He is just an idiot." and then his reponse: "Err, We have a very good understanding of how the tides work...."

Bill Moyers a very good insight on Fresh Aire. We need investigative reporting that reports conclusions based on evidence. This business of a pundit and two people arguing from different points of view disregarding the evidence is harming the american public.

    Wow! He really said that???

Ok, now I have to watch this thing.

Ohh, Bill Moyers is cool. I have "Earth on Edge" which he hosted and tried to ask decent questions.

I misquoted O'Reilly but the actual quote is even funnier:

I agree 100% with that. I realize they can do what they want, but it seems they only want to put controversy on and the more outrageous the better. In my opinion there isn't a lot of difference between O'Reilly/Hardball (and all the others) and Jerry Springer, except Springer is more entertaining. I mean, how can you not watch two lesbian midgets fighting over the hick with half his teeth and only part of his brain still intact after “the accident
