I have this problem (see photo) and it appears to be getting worse. Any ideas on how to fix or stop it?

    Thanks!

I just replaced mine recently. I was going to use some plastidip, but then I found them cheapish at Amazon. Just search ZONFANT 2 Pcs Left and Right Rear Quarter Molding Cover Compatible with 2016-2021 Toyota Prius, Replace#62505-47012 62506-47012. Common issue and no way to really stop it from happening from what I've found.

Take a picture backed out a little further, for help with location/orientation?

There is a triangular piece just behind rear door window glass, that's prone to peal. It's just painted plastic though IIRC.

No offense Ted, but what are we looking at? Maybe a fence?

The 2016 -> 2022 have these nice little fashion inserts between the rear passenger doors and the lift gate. The triangular insert is made of carbon fiber that was sanded super smooth and then painted with clearcoat (acrylic spray paint). The word is that the clear coat overheats in the sun, causing it to expand and shatter.

I found that the clear coat was removable with pure acetone. After careful cleaning you can repaint the surface with krylon clear enamel spray paint.

Removing it is similar in concept to removing the door's inside panel. It has several plastic clips that can be popped out of the car body, but then it has a gummy adhesive that has to be carefully removed with a thin plastic knife. There's a thread on that online, though I don't recall where. :)

See this comment on the video, hopefully correct:

2017 Prius. Replaced with Part numbers 62505-47012 Right side 62506-47012 Left side. There has been several iterations (-10, -11, -12) since original.
