    Big surprise. Testing costs time & money. Cheaper prices & faster delivery = less testing. If you want to outsource & maintain quality either do the testing yourself or supervise their testing.

    Toyota MS always depended on outsourcing both engineering and manufacturing. In 2007 there started to be rumbles about the suppliers being squeezed. Given other revelations inside toyota it is unlikely that management did not know suppliers were cutting corners. Ford had the same problems with cost cutting then started letting suppliers make more of an honest price for there parts. It looks like Toyota is learning this lesson now.

    I doubt many suppliers will be cut on this new revelation, but it is likely they will be doing more testing and charging more for parts.
