I recently decided to leave the 512mb dark ages and get a real MP3 player that can play all these newfangled formats like moving pictures and such. Anyways, the new player (Samsung YP-P2) has bluetooth and I was wondering if there is a way to connect a '04 Prius (without nav/bluetooth) to the MP3 player. There are plenty of iPod solutions, but everyone else seems to get ignored.

You need an AUX kit. The majority of iPod kits out there (Including the DICE) have a AUX jack. Rare is a stand-alone AUX kit without an iPod connection.

I was thinking more along the lines of a device that would tap into the bluetooth from the MP3 player and send it to the stereo wirelessly. Something similar to how BT cell phones can connect to Prius' with the BT/nav system. I'd like to avoid having cords flying all over the place and most of the FM transmitters I've seen have poor audio quality.

Someone asked this same question on a PDA discussion board that I frequent. They thought that the Bluetooth "stack" (something about the software) in cars was too primitive to deal with the complexities of transmitting/receiving music as opposed to voice or simple data.

If you have the advanced audio system, use the Aux jack in the center console from the headphone jack on your device. The wire can be limited to the confines of the console itself.

Quality music over bluetooth requires an additional service "Wireless Stereo," technically known as A2DP. The Prius only has basic "Handsfree" service. At present, only a few bluetooth headsets and other devices have the A2DP service. I haven't tried this with the Prius, but using the Handsfree profile to listen to music is like listening to an AM radio through a tin can. Not a pleasant experience.

Not gonna happen - the Prius does not support A2DP, which is the bluetooth protocol for music transmission.

Wouldn't matter in his situation because his mp3 wouldn't support the Handsfree profile.

Thanks! That's what I was looking for, except for the astronomical price. But hopefully the price will drop as the technology becomes more common.
(BTW, my Prius doesn't have bluetooth or an AUX in jack. So I couldn't even do cords if I wanted to.)
