When accessing bluetooth phone while driving....only the 'speed dial' list comes on screen

you must be stopped to get to the phone book it seems

is there an override or trick available to access the 'phone book' while driving?

    thanks.

Yes, there's a trick, but it takes a bit of work (and nerve).

You have to cut a speed sensor wire and install a switch. When you need to use the phone book, you click the switch to "off" and this will make the car think it's stopped. After you dial, switch it back as that also sends information to the Consumption screen and you won't get those 5-minute updates.

Go to this site and click on the "mods" link. Then click on the "Speed Wire Interrupt" link to see which wire needs to be cut. In order to get to the wire, you have to remove the lower glove box and the A/C vent to the right of the MFD (use a cloth covered screwdriver to pop it at the top). It's the lower purple wire that you want to cut. As for a switch, I used a push-on/push-off button, but some have used a magnetic switch.

If you're listening to FM, and the MSG button lights up on the MFD, you can read the message if you do this. Just click the switch.

You can see what I did here and here.
