Ugh, the dangers of parking on the street have bitten me in the tush. Came back to the car yesterday and someone had obviously scraped against my car with their bumper. I have an almost inpreceptible dent across two panels (one's a door) with an all too easy to spot scrape in the paint. I'd be tempted to just live with it but I'm afraid of rust since the paintjob has been compromised.

Are there any special considerations I should be aware of when having people do light body/paint touchup work on a prius?

No. Its just like any other car. I used GTA Autobody in Northridge, after a truck tire tread inflicted $1300 damage on my 2 week old Prius on the 118 freeway. Just call your insurance, pay the deductable, and you're on your way. Maybe you can polish the scratch if it isn't too deep? Just a thought. I have a new bump just ahead of the rear wheel, next to the door edge that has cracked the paint. I used touch-up paint and from most angles, you can't even see it.

I believe the only time you have to worry about body work is if somebody is using a welder. I forgot where I saw it but there was some concern about that.

If the car is painted and the paint is then cured in a heated spray booth, the HV battery must first be removed.

my prius took about 30 days to fully cure, about 4 days in a paint booth at 130 degrees. The paint was hard but like a fruit ,

if the panels are both removable, it shouldn't be an issue. what's the "other" panel?

$1500 worth of body work on front passenger door. I was told that they didn't want to put the vehicle in bake-booth after the paint was done, for fear of damaging the battery. They kept the car in the air-dry room for two extra days drying.

They were working on two 2010 Prius IIIs; mine and another one. Body shop owner said he'd pay for the rental vehicle for the two extra days. Body shop guy told me my business and satisfaction was more important to him than the $$$. Turns out the insurance company agreed and paid for the extra days.

I had not heard of high heat potentially damaging the battery before this. Expert opinions are invited. Many thanks.

    Thanks,

Don Juan, doing it in a Prius is better than not doing it at all.
