Boots... it's been 3 years since the frau asked me to get rid of my cowboy boots...

But now that time has passed... I'm wanting to get a couple of pairs again... I mean, I've had cowboy boots on my feet every year of my days breathing air since I was able to stand on two feet...

In a moment of weakness, when my frau asked me to make a change in my life, for her, I did... she said she didn't like seeing my stack of shoes and boots under my nightstand.

So I donated the 4 pairs I had... one of which had traveled the planet when I was in uniform... and had been resoled 4 times and new heels 11 times...

I used to have one pair of plain black working boots with a goodyear welt; one pair of brown stitched leather soled for dancing; one pair of grey sharkskin for going out to the show or dinner with grey or black slacks; and one pair of ostrich that was a present from the ex-inlaws...

Anyways... it's been a while and now that we are back in our own home, I am wanting to recover my dogs with something I like...

I need a boot with a built in arch... because I have an arch in my foot.

I would like some suggestions for an affordable boot that will look good, that has a built in arch, with a wide (E-EE width) and a cowboy heel...

Thank you for your time... I will listen to your suggestions.

He's basically telling you to man up and go out and get a pair, and grow a pair, instead of asking for validation on a message board.

At least that's my interpretation. ;)

I have a few pairs of Stewart Boots that I used to wear daily. Comfortable and durable without the large price premium of Lucchese. I don't wear them much anymore as I have to wear flat shoes and an orthotic due to my heel.

    I think that's unfair of your Co-Worker.

You shared "Why" you temporarily stopped buying Cowboy boots, and I am personally not going to judge you harshly for doing it for someone you love.

And the rest of your post I take as simply seeking information to shop efficiently. You're really just looking for information here.

Unfortunately I can't help you. I grew up and live mostly in the well paved suburbs and shadow of the big city. It would be disingenuous of me to wear a pair of Cowboy boots....the closest I get to a Cow is a Quarter Pounder with cheese.

My frau is Tex-Mex from Fort Worth... so I didn't originally think she was against seeing me in boots, especially since she saw me in em from day one...

Now she isn't as ambulatory, and I won't keep em in the bedroom under the nightstand where she would be seeing em all day.

Since I gave em up, I have found myself looking at folks wearing em and thinking I am missing some simple pleasures of foot cramps and pinched up toes... I don't work on the ranches anymore, and it's been 16 years since I was last up on a mount, but there is something about the boots that always made me have a good feeling when I was stomping around town... and frankly, I kinda miss putting polish on...

Looking at the prices in some of the stores is kinda a shocker... but still, I think my dogs should have a couple of pairs to don when I decide I want to go out on the town with my kids or some coworkers when I get a chance to... and to do the work in the yards we have.

My feet are larger now than they were when I was a bit younger, so it ain't like I can just order something on-line in my old size and pull it on anymore... I'm going to go for a fitting one of these coming weekends to get a good understanding of how big my feet are now, and to test the fit of several different brands that are on the shelves, but I am sure that before I do go and sit down for the fitting, I would listen to the opinions of some of the folks that I banter with over this last half a decade, and factor your good guidance into what I spend in coins to make my feet happy once again...

    Thank you for your time

Aren't there any western wear or boot stores nearby??

Sheplers.com ships to anywhere if you want to try them. I'd bet if you check the site, select a boot, and call them they could help.

The last pair of boots I bought was the only pair I've ever had that didn't stretch after wearing a while. I can't wear them, I hate to sell them, I won't just throw them away. But as long as I have them in the closet I can't make myself get another pair.

    Dang.

Best o' luck on your leathery endeavor. A body just oughta have a comfortable pair of boots.

Git yer boots, and don't keep em where the lady is bothered seein em. :)

A pair of orthotics, or at least footbeds with a high arch, should give you a greater selection to choose from.

I have a pair from the good feet store in my work shoes as I type... took the pain out of the ball of my foot and now I can continue my combined daily 5 mile walks...

And I vote for minimalist shoes & boots...

Lemmings is a brand that has come out with boots, and more shoe-like shoes for people like me that hate wearing shoes. They are designed with LOTS of wiggle room for toes, and better contact with the terrain.

My DH has a pair of their shoes, and after many years of heavy steel-toed boots for work, and very "supportive" shoes (new balance, and SAS), he has discovered amazing foot comfort with Lems! :)

Naw... my frau isn't german... she's Tex-Mex... and 100% American woman.

She has the black jack-boots though... and frankly, she was smoking hot when she used to wear em.
