breaking in 2015 prius

    I'm getting decent gas mileage, got a little over 1,700 miles on it now. I've done more city driving, got my mph down somewhat. DSC02548.JPG DSC02547.JPG

    Is there a question here? I think the manual says the break in period is only 600 miles. You're good to drive it any way you like, pedal to the metal.

    You're out of the woods on everything I think. Just going from memory, it's:

    1. Try to avoid panic stops for the first couple of hundred miles, give the brakes time to bed-in.

    2. Try to vary engine load for the first 500 miles, ie: avoid long, steady-driving road trips. Regular around town driving accomplishes this.

    I don't think there is a tire break-in. Mainly you here tire dealers mentioning that, when customers don't like a tire for whatever reason. Say mpg drop, or noise.

    are you thinking your mpg's are going to go up as they break in?

    I didn't know how long it would take the tires to really start getting good mpg. Some say 5,000 mile car might get better others say it want.

    The 2011 I have, seemed like each new set of tires I put on it would cut the mpgs down some. The last two sets of tires on it have been energy saver a/s. I think I got 75k out of the last set, the set on it now has 20k miles on it. It came with Yo avids on it new. It has 152 K on it now.

    The first set of tires I put on 2011 took a hit, the avids with .003 rubber was getting better gas mileage than the new energy saver a/s. So if someone say well its a lot older now, it only had 50K miles on it when I put the Michelin's on there. It did seem come around but tires had to get 10-20k miles on there before it happened.

    everyones experience has been a little different. i have heard the 5k claim, but never experienced it. perhaps you will add another opinion.:)

    I'm really well pleased with the mpgs I'm getting on the 2015, better than the 2011 and I don't know why. Its also like the 2011, computer 2-3 mpg more than when doing the math. I'm going to get 600 miles on this tank of gas. The tires are Goodyear Assurance fuel max, max air pressure 44lb. They have some I see that are 51 max tire pressure. I'm running the max tire pressure.(44/42) I will add this, the weather here has been mostly ideal temperature of 65-75 degrees.

    excellent! perhaps they tweaked a few things, i think others have reported similar increase. the 'optimistic' mpg gauge will probably never change. i run 42/40, don't like the harsh ride of 50 psi.
