I've had my 07 Prius for about 7 weeks now and have 1,100 miles on it. The other day I was pulling into the right lane going about 40-45 when it looked like some kid was going to pull out in front of me. I hit the breaks hard just in case he did decide to pull out. It seemed to me that ABS did not kick in. I'm use to the ABS pulse from prior cars but it seemed on the Prius that the pulse wasn't there and its seemed like the breaks locked up a bit as I could hear the tires lock up and the car got a little loose in the handling. Has anyone else seen this?

The ABS senses if any of the wheels responds differently than the others. If all the brakes uniformly lock up while the car is still in motion, the ABS computer cannot tell the difference between that conditions and a stopped vehicle.

Some ABS systems pulse a lot more than others. The one on the Prius is fairly subtle.
