Have you done a piston soak yet? Try a solvent like berrymans b-12 chemtool, or Kreen from kanolabs.

There are also ester oils/cleaners that you can run in the engine, like https://www.hplubricants.com/ or the "blue restore" jug for $90.

I've tried Marvel Mystery Oil and it had no effect on the consumption

Just an update. I'm at 320,011 miles and the Prius is still running strong.

I used carb cleaner. You don't have to let it sit over night. Be careful not to spray it on rubber parts. Carb cleaner eats rubber.

It improved my oil burning but didn't solve it before I sold the car. Had I kept the car I'd have kept trying it every oil change.

Yeah, that and seafoam are worthless for this sort of application. Use something with actual cleaning power, like mentioned below.

You can't clean an engine that's burning 3.9 quarts of oil per 1K miles. And because we don't yet have pollution cops confiscating vehicles like this for very valid reasons, I think we need to start a gofundme to buy this dude a replacement engine and end the planet killing nightmare that this car has become.

I just did a Google search on amount of hydrocarbons produced for every quart of oil burned in an engine and couldn't find a decent reference but it's a huge amount of pounds of carbon emissions.

FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS BURN TOO MUCH ENGINE OIL!!!

Hah, you think it is bad with a Prius? My father had an early model Corvair that got to the point it was burning a quart of oil per tank of gas. There were no emissions controls whatsoever on that vehicle, and the back of the car was pitch black from all the oil. You did not want to drive behind it!

Only read a few pages of this thread but is sounds like the rings are for sure coaked up. I think I would do as mentioned with the piston soaks (B-12 or other) a few times using non-synthetic oil. If I saw no improvement and the rest of the car is in good shape you can install a used engine with decent miles for cheap and easily in a weekend. I have done this and no part of it was difficult.

This thread was a good read. Matt try a piston soak with e85 one weekend. $5 and a couple hours of actual work. Would be interesting to see on your car. Yup i agree the interstate and higher load and rpm is typically when they burn more oil. Around town typically the oil goes longer.

What? I don't remember that job being advertised at my High School job fair! There would've been a LINE behind that table! :)

(But zooming around in Air Force jets was quite a fun time, too! I still miss it....retired in 2004)

Its beens while since I read though this and someone prob suggested seafoam in the oil already but ill add another shout for it.

My buddy changes his oil at 3k miles and had zero oil on the dip stick. I got him to put seafoam in the oil 500 miles before he changed it and it was a miracle for him. 3000 miles later still was half way on the dip stick.

Same with me, in the oil 500 miles before( ive done a few times) and it seems back to normal not much burning.

seafoam in the intake didnt seem to help me. Just putting the info here.

I hit a milestone on the way home from a baseball game tonight 325,000 miles and still running strong. This engine still got a lot of life left of her. Will do a piston soak here shortly as I’m gonna change spark plugs running P0171 code (running lean Bank one) but there’s no loss of power, it doesn’t idle roughly, and the engine isn’t knocking. I have had this Code before about two years ago and simply cleaning the spark plug area and changing spark plugs removed the code. Probably just excess oil in Bank 1. Will try the sea foam method when I do this process. Still running strong and no, there is not a cloud of smoke behind me as I drive the vehicle. This Prius where does all that does not smoke.
