My 2005 Prius has 281,000 miles and is burning oil. No smoke or leakage just have to add oil between oil changes. I drive about 30,000 miles per year with my job. Car is paid for and I love not having a car payment, but fear this may be the beginning of the end.
    Any thoughts????

welcome! how much are you adding between 5k changes? might be able to go to a different oil, and if worse comes to worst, you can have a low mile salvage installed for $1,500. or so. all the best!(y)

There are engine with far less miles that are burning oil. Just keep topping off the oil until a major problem arises....then get another car

I agree. Continue to check the oil at every fill up and top off. Is the hybrid battery the original? My 2005 is now at 263,000 miles and I have the same concerns...

have you tried 15W40? it usually helps with oil consumption.

This is a great resource. I came out here per concerns about our 2010 prius with 230,000 miles (you read those numbers right!), having started to burn oil. Checked out at the dealership, just have to top off every 2000 miles or so. it has been a spectacular car. just new tires and regular service. Thank you to those with comments about this issue. when i see my concern in writing i feel a bit silly. considering it is 104 degrees outside today and six months ago it was 20 degrees below zero (you read those numbers right!) ....High expectations i guess. we plan on getting another 100K out of this little marvel. an extra 50 quarts of oil seems a small price to pay!
