Now that cedar pollen is in full force in my area, I have a few questions about the Prius' cabin air filtration.

    1) I am assuming 100% of the air intake, when the system is in the FRESH mode, passes through the cabin air filter? Can anyone confirm?

    2) Is all the air still passing through the filter, when the system is in RECIRC?

    3) If #2 is true, what's the point of the dust / pollen button?

IIRC, the only time the filtration is at it's max is when the cabin scrub button is pushed and that only lasts for a few minutes.

Thanks for the info. So sounds like this mode does not introduce any special functionality, and is merely a short cut, or macro to activate a list of things automatically, that could otherwise be done manually too. No?

The best way that I have heard it explained that even in recirc mode the fresh air damper door does not fully close. This is to allow a small amount of fresh air for passenger comfort and to reduce window fogging. When you press the Dust/Pollen button the fresh air damper door closes tightly to remove dust/pollen from the interior air. This mode has a 3 minute timer.

You cannot close the fresh air damper door completely in any other manual mode.

And turns on the compressor, if necessary, to prevent fogging.
