While I may have lit up once or twice (but not inhaled) in my lifetime, this article screams 'Legalize It', 'Tax It', and Huge penalties for unconscionably ruining public lands. Below are snippets of the full article.

The dope growers who ripped up Marin parkland to plant acres of marijuana valued at more
than $100 million this summer, then got away as authorities moved in, might not be as lucky
next year. On one grow site, plants more than 10 feet tall were so laden with
plump sinsemilla buds, the stalks sagged parallel to the ground because of the weight.
Police did come close to nailing some of those tending the marijuana gardens, however -
so close that officers found plates of steaming scrambling eggs left behind by the growers.
In early September, authorities discovered 1,200 plants that were cut and stacked near
Kent Lake waiting to be destroyed the next day, were stolen overnight. The pot was
valued at $3 million. The state reported 1,675,681 plants confiscated in 2006,
up from 1.1 million the year before, with most seized on public lands. Estimated wholesale
value of the statewide haul was put at $6.7 billion. They're not only growing more of it,
the potency of what they can produce is getting better" and far more potent, he said.
"Some of these stalks look like trees."
