Can I skip my 35k mi service until after my road trip? Is my catalytic converter safe travelling?

Been hearing about theft of Prius catalytic converters. In fact, a friend had his stolen today! Though, I dont know if they're just as vulnerable on Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) as opposed to the other models. And, is this more of a risk when travelling, or in your home town, or neither?

I just got a notification recently about the service being due, though my mileage is 36368. Is it ok to postpone the service until I come back home? I'm going from LA to Portland, OR.

It's not that easy stealing a prius cat, much easier taking one from a truck or suv

Oil changes needed every 10k miles, that's about it

Yup, cats are being stolen from prius' in California.

Seems the are moving from city to city.

I have read they were stealing them from a city called Silverlake, now the the band of thieves have now targeted eagle rock.

It is an epidemic. I don't know what is so special about a prius cat vs another vehicles cat.

I can't make a recommendation for you but I skipped every 5k mile service as it was mostly inspections. I only brought it in for the first 5k to turn off the back up beeping. It was 10k mile OCI and rotation from then on.

Only thing pops into my head is that a Prius cat will be pretty clean compared to others. Like new IOW.

pretty sure it is, even if you account for mere advertising tactics (go to catstrap dot net--nifty, but pricey). i already have enough semi-empirical evidence this is a trend--even just based on this thread.

seriously!? casual racism in Prius chat? think about what you said, there.

and, "just because I never heard of cats being stolen, that must mean the opposite is a ludicrous idea in all instances in all of human existence." quite an American mentality.

Creditable as in national news? I don't have anything creditable, only local since it is only happening "locally", however, if more incidents are reported, it may become national.

Well paying $500 deductible sure beats paying $2000 to Toyota for a replacement. while they're at it, maybe they can say their hv battery is stolen too, get more bang for their $500 deductible.
