    Hi everyone,

I’m having trouble with my 2021 Toyota Prius Prime (Gen 4). The hood release cable seems to have snapped or become disconnected—pulling the interior lever no longer pops the hood.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
    • I jacked up the car and removed the engine splash shield (undertray).
    • Unfortunately, I can’t reach the latch from underneath — the radiator support cover or front trim is blocking access.
    • I tried prying between the hood and the bumper, but the gap is extremely tight. I can slide in a small flathead screwdriver but I don't know how I can hit the latch.

    • I’m now considering going through the front grille with a long screwdriver to manually trip the latch, but I’m not sure exactly where to aim or what direction to move the latch.

Can anyone with a Gen 4 Prius (2016–2022) please:

    • Take a clear photo of the hood latch assembly from above with the hood open?
    • Help me figure out where the latch sits in relation to the grille, so I can aim a tool through the front?
    • Or share any advice if you’ve had to do this yourself?

My hood doesn't really pop; like an American car. I just give the hood release a tug; stick my fingers into the black sealing strip and lift. Then unlatch the safety hook and lift.
Did you have someone tug on the hood release while your prying up on the hood with your fingers?
