Can you use techstream to get voltage information as the car is running?

I need to test the modules in my HV battery under load.

However as soon as I start the vehicle techstream loses communication and when I try to reestablish communication to techstream as the car is on it won't connect.

    Am I doing something wrong?

With or without the typo, Eric's right. You must have some technical issue. My guess would be a cheep dongle between the laptop and car. Or maybe it's a bad driver for the dongle. It's technical and will need some trial and error to sniff it out.

Will any OBD2 to USB cable work or does it need to be a specific one?

This was a cheap cable I got off ebay in a kit that had the software and cable together

I can't say for sure about that. But I have read that there are big variations in functionality between the cheap ones and the good ones. Mine is also a cheaper one and, so far, it has done all I asked of it. But I am considering an upgrade one of these days.
