So, trying to estimate the Canadian prices for the upcoming 2012 Prius plug-in. It's not looking pretty.

USA prices (rounded to nearest 1k):
    Base Prius (non-plug-in) 24k USD
Base Plug-in Prius 32k USD (+8k USD versus base non-plug-in)
Advanced plug-in Prius 40k USD (+16k USD vs base non-plug-in)

    Canada prices - extrapolation
Base Prius 28k CAD (actual 2011 prices)
    Base plug-in 36k CAD (extrapolated)
    Advanced plug-in 44k CAD (extrapolated)

Considering the 2011 Canadian Prius V surprisingly came in at a lower price than the regular Prius, it's fair to expect a 1-2k lower MSRP in 2012 for the regular Prius
    That brings it to :
Base Prius 26k CAD (adjusted 2012 price)
    Base plug-in 34k CAD (extrapolated & adjusted)
    Advanced plug-in 42k CAD (extrapolated & adjusted)

Sounds reasonable. I was expecting a minimum of $40,000 for the Advanced version anyway. It'll be some sort of miracle if TCI brought it in at a lower price than the US.

Anyone know when the plugin will be available in Canada? I hope they sell it close to the states base price like they did the prius v ($800 difference). British Columbia is also offering a $2500 rebate for the plugin :)

I'd like to think that... I'd be surprised that they lower the base Prius to 25k CAD however. I hope I'm wrong.

Prius prices will not come down. The Dollar (U.S. and Canadian) have been falling versus the Yen for several years. The dollar is still inching downward. In 2007 there were over 120 yen to the dollar - today it's 77.36.

I understand your point, and yet, the Prius V is nearly the same price in Canada as it is in the US.

If the logic had held, the Prius V in Canada would sell for several thousand dollars more.

The more I think about it, I now expect the base Prius to drop 1-3k in price for 2012.

I agree with you. Especially with the plugin coming it would make sense to drop the base price. Anyone know when the plugin might be available in Canada? I know it will be coming in 2012 but anyone know when?

Don't count on Prius prices dropping. The Canadian and U.S. dollar have both been dropping versus the yen. The dollar is on a four year downward slide. As long as that continues, Prius prices will continue to go up.

No word on release dates, yet. I haven't heard anything from TCI.

Just went to my dealership and they told me that they are expecting the plugin's in spring 2012 - no word on pricing yet but they are "expecting" a price drop on the regular 2012 non-plugin prius's.

That's nice. Toyota Canada's really aggressive with pricing lately.

Nope but Stefx's new estimated pricing is pretty close imo (though I'm still thinking closer to $40k instead of $42k for the PHV Advanced. They'll probably drop a few features to make that $40,000 cutoff). Of course, they could still go all out and say even though it's the same price as the Volt, you trade EV range for a lot more features.
