I saw the Prime at the Vancouver Auto show and the nice lady there knew less than I did about it! So i'd take any information from the floor of the autoshow with a grain of salt. Not sure how they'd charge $10k more for the Prime than the normal G4...at that price I'd probably get my $1000 back and go shopping!

That's usually the case. I asked about the Honda Accord PHEV a few years ago at the auto show and the person said it doesn't exist (it was available in the U.S. and Japan. It's one thing to say it won't be sold in Canada. It's another to say it doesn't exist at all).

They're not manufacturer employees or people working for the manufacturer. They're usually hired 3rd party to help out at events. You and I could sign up if you want to travel across Canada, doing these types of events. (auto shows, test drives, other sorts of promos). Once in a while, you'll actually get a person interested in cars.

Hey guys, latest I've heard is "early next year" for rollout to other provinces. (Was careful not to say nationwide so I wonder if they're just going province-by-province? Also, there's still a production constraint)

The Prime is gone from the Toyota.ca website. At least -I- can't find it!

It only shows up if you choose Quebec.

Just curious... is there any reason you could not cross the border and buy one in the US?

Nope. When the exchange rate was near parity, there were many US-spec cars brought up to Canada (both new and used). The exchange rate is near 1.3x now. The cars up here (except for Tesla) are marked at around 1.15-1.2x the price compared to the US so it's cheaper to buy in Canada.

Well, I'm pretty sure you -can't- buy a new Prius in the US and bring it into Canada. Toyota tries very hard to stop you. US dealers are threatened with loss of dealership if they sell to non-residents (Canadians). You could have a friend in the US (resident) buy it and sell it to you, but then it's a used car, so by definition you are not importing a new one. If less than two years old, as I recall, taxes are high to import used cars into Canada. There are always some who will do it of course.

Prime is now sold everywhere in Canada. It's just not in stock anywhere except Quebec, probably because it's expensive everywhere except a few provinces with rebates, and out of stock in some where it sells like hotcakes (BC ?). ;)

I'd like to look at one here in Alberta, but it appears that is not going to happen.

I DID look at an Infiniti QX50 (2019), with the new technology variable compression ratio engine. It beats the RAV4 hybrid in highway mileage, though not the city mileage. Better watch out Toyota! If Nissan combine that engine with hybrid tech they might have a big winner in mileage! Of course at $44,000 to $60,000 Can. it's not "in the same class" as a RAV4 (or Prius). Very nice car though.

I'm pretty sure the Prime is targeted right now. What I mean is that they're shipping it to provinces with incentives. Elsewhere, you'd have to order it so it might be a while til we see one in Alberta.

    Bonjour,

Don't forget, we speek french in Québec :)

Yes we have a rebate of 4 000$ for a Prime.

Ne pas oublier qu'on parle le français au Québec!

Il y a un rabais de 4 000$ pour une Prius Prime donné par le gouvernement du Québec.

Well, here in Southern Ontario (where we have fairly generous $5k rebates), I usually see at least one or two Primes parked out front at any dealer I drive by. The Milton dealer I go to for servicing had four of them (!) parked out front last time I was there. Of course, the Ontario incentive was over $7k for a few weeks at the start of the year when it was the Prime was first released, but the the incentive has been reduced back to $5k.

I am thinking of maybe upgrading to a Prime in the fall/winter when the 2019’s come out, likely negotiating a deal on a leftover 2018 (unless the 2019 adds the 5th seat or CarPlay support, but neither are likely)... my pick would be a loaded model in Blue or Red. .
