Can't Reach Turn Signal Blinker Unit

I want to change or move the unit that makes my turn signals blink. I can't hear it clicking so I have to take my eyes off the road to see if the turn signal is on. I don't like this.

The unit is in the dash up to the front left. I can pop off that little fuse cover on the left side and hear it blinking away in there. I want to either make it an extension harness and put it near an opening in the dash or else replace it with a louder model.

My problem is I can't seem to get at it, which is silly. They predictably wear out, so there must me a way to get at it to change it when it dies. I took off the piece of dash cover that goes under the steering wheel but still couldn't get up into the front left corner of the insides of the dash.

Suggestions anyone?
