Car did NOT growl before repair. Cat was stolen so whole exhaust system replaced. Thoughts on why car is growling...could it be coincidental and unrelated to repair...or did they screw something up??

First thought is that part of the exhaust is hitting and vibrating against the body.
Second thought is that you might have an exhaust leak.
Either should have been taken care of by whoever did the installation.

Most likely the flange at the exhaust manifold is not properly sealing, resulting in an exhaust leak. I've swapped 9 Gen 2 exhausts in the last 6 weeks. A few have had this issue. It's a matter of getting the pipe bent correctly so the flange angle matches the manifold and donut gasket.

    Yes, exhaust leak.
Take it back to whoever did it.

Either exhaust leak or part(s) of the new system are vibrating against other parts. Take it back.

    Growl?
    Interesting description.
Pfft, Pfft or Pop Pop is more of an exhaust leak description I'd expect for leaks.
Clunk, rattle, buzz would also be descriptions I'd expect for vibrations.

Motofoto, post 5, I think sums up possible installation errors.

    Yet growl, I am unsure.
Could be something unrelated to the Cat repair.
Like a failing rotating item, such as a bearing.

Please let us know what the finding is.
