First the HOV stickers, then the free parking, and now ... insurance discounts!

The Farmers Insurance Group of Companies announced a 5% discount to customers in California who own a hybrid or alternative fuel vehicle. (Earlier post.) This is the first such insurance discount offered to hybrid and altfuel owners in the US.

The discount, effective 1 October 2005, is for all customers who own a hybrid or alternative fuel vehicle. All new business customers will receive the discount as of the new business date and existing customers will receive the discount upon renewal.

I hope that all the car insurance companies will follow suit. It encourages saving oil, and would save me money, too.

Free parking programs are active in SF, San Jose, LA (maybe others also) in CA. Certain limitation applies in each city. :)

To clarify, in Los Angeles you can park for free at parking meters (but not parking garages or parking lots). And make sure you're not in unincorporated cities like Glendale, where that rule doesn't apply.
