I would like to install a cargo barrier between the cargo area and the back of the rear seats.

Volvo has this for their wagons (click on Steel Cargo Barrier).

    This is a safety issue.

Anyone know where we can get one for the Prius?

I Googled "car pet barrier" and found a number of sites offering barriers resembling the Volvo item. Most of these seem to be be adjustable width and height-wise and do not require drilling or gluing (except for the mesh net types). Prices seem to start around $30 plus shipping and go to $100+. Here are a few of the sites I found (in no particular order):

    http://www.callingalldogs.com/products/OTG...pet_barrier.htm

    http://www.prolineracks.com/pet-barrier.html

    http://www.car-truck-accessories.com/shope..._petbarrier.htm

    http://www.autobarn.net/petbardiv.html

For some reason, Googling "cargo barrier" brought up mainly Australian sites and Volvo sites...

Thanks for bringing up this subject - I think I might buy one of these products myself.

There was a thread here in PC some months ago regarding the same thing. You might be able to find some more info there.

MIM sells a cargo barrier that is crash tested and designed for protection, not just keeping dogs away from the driver. The Variobarrier.

Note: I tried the HR version that attaches to the headrest of the back seat. The manufacturer said to get size small (medium they said would be too tall and hit the ceiling). My 2012 has headrests that don't adjust high enough. The only way to install it was to put both brackets on the middle headrest up a couple of inches. There was a gap at the top of about 3". If i used the outer headrests they weren't locked in, and the gap at the top was about 4.25".

It may be that the regular Variobarrier would fit better in a V. It has legs to stand on and may be able to be adjusted to minimize the gap at the top.

The small was $285 where I found it. I recommend checking out your headrests and the barriers before deciding if it's right for you, but I really like the concept they have. It's the only crash safety focused barrier I've seen.
