That is what my cat looked like too.

Are you sure it wasnt like that when they replaced the engine?

Cataclean may it break down but it will not destroy a cat that is not bad or already damaged.

Atleast you got a new cat and no more P0420 code...

I’m 99.9% sure it was not destroyed like that when I had the engine out. Definitely Peered down the cat because I was thinking of cleaning it like @Ragingfit did in his video while I had the engine out of the bay. Really concerned now.

won’t know if p0420 is truly gone for 100 miles or so I’m guessing. Right now the cat temps fluctuate when I’m driving. Sometimes they’re reading less than 100 degrees diff sometimes it’s 200. Really tired of diy’ing

not getting any misfires. Something I did stupidly upstream burned the cat. I’m wondering if it was something with the egr being wired wrong and the vacuum valve being stuck. Maybe the pcv valve went bad? That first cat was FRIED. I got a photo of it during the swap but it’s a Live Photo that won’t post.

tomorrow I’m cleaning the egr and intake again. @ChapmanF do you think p0401 on this two month old egr valve and cooler points to a bad valve? Another electrical issue? Clog only?

Another dumb thing I did was give the old cat to the shop owner that welded it. He gave me a $75 discount when I mentioned the rebate. Bet if I welded a new magnaflow universal for $228 I could flip it online but just don’t got the energy or funds to make that move. $125 total for install of new magnaflow. Could’ve also scrapped it like the thieves.

I kept my OEM cat, I would go back and give him the $75 and get your OEM back.

At least you would have an extra if the Magnaflow was stolen.

I don't know what's causing the P0401, but the troubleshooting procedure is made to find out.

Try changing the EGR valve motor.

Well ,. @ChapmanF is right in that I should follow the p0401 troubleshooting procedure that @Mendel Leisk posted in another thread. After reading it, my guess is it’ll probably be the MAF sensor likely is fudged up. It’ll never be something that doesn’t cost a lot of money. Murphy’s law with this car. That EGR valve is two months old. Wiring it wrong could’ve messed it up too, who knows…either part will cost $$.

Are you thinking of the MAP sensor? The MAF sensor hasn't got any role in a P0401 story.

Surprisingly the egr cooler, pipe assembly, intake manifold, egr valve etc are not dirty. They have minimal carbon build up. It’s either the egr valve or the MAP. PCV? Gonna have to punt troubleshooting to the weekend. Just a bit freaked out that I’ll burn a giant hole in the new cat somehow.

How old is the EGR valve? How does its ski jump look?

I see another thread where you discuss p0401. Speaking about the same topics must be infuriating. Sorry.

I tried removing the black stator from the valve but I stripped one of the screws. Fun.

Your old OEM cat was over 10 years old.
They do NOT last that long and with a bad engine it will break down.

Your new cat will NOT break down like that so quickly and will take another 5-10 years.

    MAF code is P0101

the shop owner is going to give me the cat back. I’ll just store it until I can repair the first cat that got burned and hold on to it as a spare part until I no longer have a Prius. Would love to learn more about the Maverick at this point or the 2023 Prius. Can only dream about them for now.
