    Hello there,
my very first post here but I have been reading for a while.

I recently put a new set of wheels on my Prius to make it look a bit nicer. I thought I share the picture and maybe the idea. The 16" wheels (which is the normal size on P2 in Europe) come from a Toyota Celica T23 where they were standard (in Europe) and they fit nicely. They are 6.5" wide and have an offset of 39. They can be had second hand really cheaply (managed to pick mine up a full set for $140 and they were in a fairly good condition (needed a little bit of refurb to cover up some stone chips and a tiny bit of corrosion around the valves). So attached are some pictures.

    A nice day to everyone!

    Those look nice good job.

I also like the euro side turn signal on the quarter panel, I wish you could get those stock on a U.S. auto. If not on the quarter panel on the mirror and I would be willing to pay if side signals were at least an option.

I was only able to weigh them with tires. I do not have the exact weight in my head right now (I think it was more or less 16kg, so about 35lb for wheel+tire), but as far as I remember there were almost the sames as the the standard wheels (which in Europe are 16" magnesium wheels with Michelin Primacy tires in 195/55/16V). I did however put Michelin Energy Saver (not sure if you have these in the states, they might have a different name) which I think are a bit lighter than the Primacy, so the wheels might be a bit heavier. But all in all they are not bad at all.

Michelin Primacy tires in 195/55/16V are 23.3 lbs
    therefore the rims weigh 35-23.3=11.7lbs

Which Primacy tires??? And why are those 16" tires so damned heavy? lol They weigh as much or more than most 17s.

Total weight for my OEM 15" wheels with 185/65/15 Integrity tires was 31.5-32lbs.

I am guessing you guys are right about the original weight measurement being wrong.

I have some spare Primacy's in 195/55/16 91V in the garage and just had them on the scale to check: they are around 19 lbs. Now I do remember that the Energy Saver's are a bit lighter, so I guess around 18lbs. This would leave 17lbs for the rim which feels about right.

(sorry, can't find the motivation to take the wheel of the car to weigh it ;)

in my heart of hearts, I would say a rim like that would be 20-23lbs

Real shame I didn't get around weighing them when the tires were off. But what I can tell you is that they are surprisingly light. But when looking at them you see they are quite slender (can one say that about a wheel  ) i.e. a lot of 'holes in the metal' and also they come from a sporty car originally, so would make sense that they are not too heavy.

Thanks HI MPG, so if that is correct that would be 19.5 lbs for the wheel and 18 for the tire, so 37.5 lbs in total. Hm, I am almost tempted to take off a wheel now to confirm this, if I wasn't too tired...

Following a discussion in a different thread I have used the opportunity that the summer wheels are off the car and got my bathroom scale out and did some checking:

The entire wheel / tire combination weighs 16.6 kg (36.6 lbs)
The spare Michelin Energy Saver 195/55/16 91V that I have in the garage by itself weighs 8.4 kg (18.5 lbs)
The weight of the T23 alloy wheel must therefore be 8.2kg (18.1 lbs)

Interestingly I also have a spare continental tire in the same dimension but with loadcharge index 87 and speedindex T and it's almost a kilo less!!!! Would be interesting to know how much of the extra weight in the Energy comes from:
    - the higher loadcharge
    - the higher speed rating
    - the different tire build up

Almost out of curiosity I will have to try to get hold of an Energy Saver in the above dimensioin in 87T, let's see what ebay has to offer ;)
