Can a 2008 CA Prius be changed to a MN Prius to get better mileage. The CA Prius gets about 39mpg highway. I think the CA changes effect the mileage. Can anything be done? I also have a type 1 that gets 42mpg in winter and 50 plus mpg in the other 3 seasons, I thought the 2008 would do as well if not better for mileage.

What do you mean by "changed". There is no difference between the CA and MN settings.

For a given model year, Prius shipped to all 50 US states are the same, with respect to the drivetrain. All 2G Prius are certified as AT-PZEV and meet California emissions requirements.

Hence, if you find that your 2008 is yielding poor mpg, you'll need to figure out what is wrong with that particular car. There have been numerous posts from other owners asking about how to improve mpg. Hopefully a search will yield some ideas that you will want to pursue.

That's nonsense. I bought my 06 Prius (new) in California when I was living there. I moved away from CA in late 2009.

My lifetime average when I was in CA was ~46 mpg w/my commute being at least 60% highway, by mileage. I was able to achieve a "tank" a bit above 50 mpg if I kept my speeds down (tried to stay below 70 mph for an entire tank).

Years ago (before the Prius) there were differences that would have given better MPG, but no more,

    Don't Cha Know....

    Yeah..
My 08 Matrix that was A MN Car it;s entire life was still certified to pass CA emissions. I don't think there is much that would even be possible.
