Changed oil at 20,000 on my 2016. I did the change at 10,000 (plus all the changes on my 2011 with 150,000 miles) and don't think I did anything different. Yet gas motor doesn't shut down at idle. Fact it seems to be idling faster than it should. What might I have done wrong?
    Feeling pretty stupid.

Sorry. Seems the Prius runs so much better with the oil cap on. I went back out, thinking I look over what I might have done wrong and there was the oil cap. Sitting there. Laughing at me. Put on. Started up and it is right as rain.
    Whoops.

Woot power to you in doing your own oil change! I am glad it wasn't any major issue. I plan on doing the same to my gen 4 eventually after Toyota car ends. If you or anyone can post pics of the process that would be great.

Always check the stupid stuff. Glad you found the 710 cap where you left it.

I once hired a rental car that had the oil cap missing. Drove it 5 miles from the depot, I smelled oil burning so I had a look, no oil cap and oil all over the top of the engine and the hood. Drove it back and got a new car, left them steam cleaning the engine bay of the other.

Always check your work. I've done stupid stuff like that in my day. I replaced a thermostat one time. Put a rag in the neck to keep gasket chips from falling down inside. Forgot to take the rag out. Car overheated.

Did that with my old Camry once. Left it under the hood near the strut tower and drove it for about 2 hours thinking "sounds loud and nicely tuned, that oil change must have been awesome". Then I realized what I did and immediate stopped the car to check. Sure enough it was still there. I could see the oil steam, but no splatter. No longer has the tuned sound so I felt sad and dumb. I've changed my own oil about 20 times prior, but realized I got more careless the more I do.

You are lucky it did not spray oil all over the engine compartment. My diesel did.

got one better, on the Gen 1 somebody got the oil changed at the dealership, car ready and they drove it around... Driver got in, turned on the car and it made the most bad noise..... Turns out they forgot to add OIL back in ... NOT GOOD ..... I would have screamed for a NEW car.,.. this person just let them fill it and went on...
